{"id":17409,"date":"2026-05-27T11:11:47","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T04:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plantscience.sc.mahidol.ac.th\/?p=17409"},"modified":"2026-06-17T11:59:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T04:59:06","slug":"department-of-plant-science-provides-research-training-for-gifted-science-students-from-samsenwittayalai-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plantscience.sc.mahidol.ac.th\/?p=17409&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center; font-family: 'K2D', sans-serif; font-size: 0.7em; letter-spacing:1.5px;\">Department of Plant Science Provides Research Training for Gifted Science Students from Samsenwittayalai School<\/p>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><style>\n  @import url('https:\/\/fonts.googleapis.com\/css2?family=K2D:wght@300&display=swap');<br \/>\n<\/style>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0em; margin-bottom: 1em; text-indent: 0em; line-height: 2.0em; letter-spacing: 0.2px; font-family: 'K2D', sans-serif; font-size: 1.0em; text-align:justify;\">\nAssociate Professor Aussanee Pichakum, Department of Plant Science, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, supervised a research training program for Ms. Sarocha Saewong and Ms. Patcharita Thongmiphet, Grade 10 students (Academic Year 2025) from the Science Classroom in University-Affiliated School Project (SCiUS) at Samsenwittayalai School.\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0em; margin-bottom: 1em; text-indent: 0em; line-height: 2.0em; letter-spacing: 0.2px; font-family: 'K2D', sans-serif; font-size: 1.0em; text-align:justify;\">\nThe internship was conducted on May 8, 11, and 12, 2026, at the Department of Plant Science, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, under the research topic &#8220;Plant Responses under Stress Environment.&#8221; The program was designed to provide students with hands-on experience in plant physiology research while developing practical laboratory skills, scientific data analysis, and research communication.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Training Activities<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Day 1: Observation of Stomatal Responses<\/strong><br \/>\n* Learning the free-hand sectioning technique for preparing plant tissue samples.<br \/>\n* Observing stomatal opening and closing under a light microscope.<br \/>\n* Recording and interpreting microscopic observations of stomatal characteristics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2: Evaluation of Plant Responses to Environmental Stress<\/strong><br \/>\n* Measuring stomatal responses using a stomatal conductance meter.<br \/>\n* Assessing plant stress through the measurement of the maximum quantum yield of Photosystem II (Fv\/Fm) using chlorophyll fluorescence analysis.<br \/>\n* Capturing leaf images under field conditions for subsequent leaf area analysis.<br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/plantscience.sc.mahidol.ac.th\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/03_resize-1.jpg\" width=\"300px\" \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/plantscience.sc.mahidol.ac.th\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/04_resize-1.jpg\" width=\"300px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/center><br \/>\n<strong>Day 3: Digital Image and Data Analysis<\/strong><br \/>\n* Analyzing leaf area using ImageJ image analysis software.<br \/>\n* Processing stomatal conductance data using Microsoft Excel.<br \/>\n* Learning data management, statistical interpretation, and graph preparation to visualize plant responses to environmental stress.<br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/plantscience.sc.mahidol.ac.th\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/01_resize-1.jpg\" width=\"400px\" \/>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/plantscience.sc.mahidol.ac.th\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/02_resize-1.jpg\" width=\"400px\" \/><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>This research training provided students with valuable experience throughout the scientific research process\u2014from experimental techniques and laboratory instrumentation to data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
