Students enrolled in SCPL 363 Ornamental Plants and Gardens at the Department of Plant Science, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Phayathai Campus, joined hands to improve and revitalize the vertical garden located behind the New Biology Building (Building N). The initiative aims to create a greener, more welcoming environment for the university community. As part of their practical coursework, the students engaged in hands-on learning by designing, arranging, and maintaining ornamental plants within the limited space of a vertical garden. The activity not only allowed them to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting but also fostered teamwork, responsibility, and environmental awareness.
In addition to renovating the garden, the students have been assigned to maintain and care for the space throughout the semester. This ongoing responsibility ensures the sustainability and beauty of the green area while serving as a living classroom and a model for vertical garden management in urban spaces. The project highlights the integration of academic learning with environmental stewardship, giving students a sense of pride and ownership in contributing to the improvement of their department’s surroundings.
