On April 4, 2025, second-year students from the Department of Plant Science, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University participated in a field excursion to Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The trip was part of the course “Plant Taxonomy,” led by Associate Professor Dr. Saroj Ruchisansakun. The students were also honored to receive guidance and in-depth insights from retired Associate Professor Dr. Thaya Janjittikul, an esteemed expert in botany.
The primary objective of the excursion was to provide students with hands-on experience in identifying plant species within their natural habitats. Students practiced observing botanical characteristics such as leaf shape, flowers, and fruits, while also learning about the surrounding ecosystems. The activity included guided nature walks, surveys of native plant diversity, and exercises in data recording and the use of taxonomic keys.
This field experience served to enhance students’ academic and practical skills in botany while fostering a sense of environmental awareness and appreciation for natural resources. It demonstrated the effective integration of theoretical knowledge with real-world application.
